TLDR; find eternal happiness in a spreadsheet.

About the job:

High achievers, assemble. You have the following choice; get sucked into the violent vortex of a prehistoric multinational company. Or, help us sell beds to Drake. You read that correctly. We are Spekk; a digital advertising agency for high consideration products. Here, you’ll enjoy a better work/life balance than you would on a corporate grad scheme, while progressing more quickly, travelling more often and, whisper it, actually enjoying your life.

What is Paid Media Management?

Paid Media Management or ‘Media Buying’ basically used to be one long boozy client lunch. You’d clink glasses, cough through cigarette smoke and laugh about how much of their money you were about to spend on their advertising for radio, on TV and in magazines. Today, media buying is a hyper dynamic profession that also includes sophisticated strategising and the mastery of complex algorithms.

We work for interesting and iconic businesses, taking the time to craft their strategy and grapple with cutting edge technologies to get our work in front of the right people at the right moment. Part art, part science, part really, really rewarding; they say that behind every perfectly targeted advert is an absolute genius of a human.

Is that human…you?

What you would do in this role:

If you are selected as the Marketing Analyst Trainee for Spekk, you are basically our bet on who will become the next superstar media buyer within the team. Like any hero’s journey, it starts with learning. Specifically, it starts with ‘Spekk’ademy’ – our not-at-all-difficult-to-pronounce-but-very-clearly-branded training academy where you’ll learn to analyse and present marketing data, as well as how to set up campaigns on various advertising platforms.

Once you’ve completed your onboarding, you will be working directly with more senior members of the team on live client accounts with things like reporting, campaign analysis, dashboard building and, of course, setting up world-class ad campaigns.

And while you may graduate from Spekk’ademy, the learning doesn’t stop there. As you are working in your support role to our ‘Senior Paid Media Managers’ you will start getting to grips with the very thing that sets Spekk apart from other media buying agencies; strategic, high-level thinking.

Who this role is for:

  • People who dig deeper. The type of products we market are high-consideration, which means they have complex consumer buying journeys. A superficial understanding of a challenge or problem won’t cut it.
  • Both sides of the brain. The role requires both analytical and creative thinking, so you’ll need to be not just well-rounded, but more or less perfectly spherical.
  • Curiosity killed the cat, but made your career. Candidates should be curious and inquisitive, ask questions and be hungry for knowledge.
  • Really, really, really great people. We’re hard working and highly motivated, but we’re also here to enjoy our work. Ideally you’d be someone who looks out for others and revels in being social. The team mostly works remotely but we meet up on team trips all over the world.

What you’ll get:

  • The satisfaction of having avoided becoming a fossil at a prehistoric conglomerate.
  • Close contact with erudite seniors.
  • Complex, cerebral problem-solving for fascinating businesses – think Hästens, the makers of Drake’s bed, or Novak Djokovic’s new recovery pod venture.
  • The chance to travel while your investment banker friends are slurping noodles at 2am somewhere dreadful like Canary Wharf.
  • The freedom of working remotely, but with trips every year to meet up with the team.
  • A meritocracy free from red tape or stupid barriers to your personal development – take Stephen as an example, he made Partner 4 years after joining as an intern.

Timings & remuneration:

  • Start date: Summer 2024. Full-time position, in it for the long run.
  • We’re flexible around employment forms depending on location – we can figure out what suits both sides best.
  • Remuneration: £23,000 – £32,000 depending on experience.

Benefits & Perks:

  • Team trips to places like Barcelona, Nice and Mallorca (3 per year)
  • £500 one-off allocation for home office set-up.
  • Fully remote workforce with team members based in the UK, Sweden, Spain, Germany, France and Portugal.
  • Casa Spekk in Barcelona (our own ‘brand home’). Those who are based in the city or willing to travel there can take full advantage of this collaboration space.

Must-have criteria:

  • You’re a human calculator.
  • You can work during UK office hours (we’re pretty flexible, but for meetings we’ll need you to be around).
  • You’re good at research – Googling, reading, generally figuring stuff out.
  • When you go to sleep at night, you dream of neatly organised spreadsheets.
  • You get good grades without memorising textbooks.
  • Everyone wants you on their team in a game of Monopoly.
  • You fall to your knees in despair when a comma is out of place, when a formula doesn’t add up, or when you’re missing a piece of a puzzle.

Please apply if…

  • You’d rather spend your money on seeing the world rather than buying more of what’s in it.
  • You speak more than one language.
  • You’ve spent time running ads on any of the other social media platforms.
  • You know how to make sense of Google Analytics.
  • You have a morally and/or legally questionable story from your gap year to tell us.
  • You’d go to Burning Man over Coachella.
  • You can mix a killer mezcal cocktail.
